Until recently I had thought better of us, but the last eight years have proven me misguided in that hope.

The situation is beyond mere politics. It is a commentary on our society, the exposure of a social condition far more underdeveloped than I had hitherto believed existed.

I'm very disappointed, especially after choosing to invest 31 years service to what I had believed existed only to be shown our true social level afterward. I rather think at times the man in question is right. I am a "sucker and a loser" as he is on record having said of my people when he declined to go to the cemetery at Belleau Wood in the rain during the 100th anniversary observances of the Great War. At least half the population backs him, or he wouldn't have become President and he wouldn't have a chance at doing so again.

I can't despair, though some days it's very difficult not to. We have to all go forward again or we perish.
