As for 3D printing I find myself puzzled at some of the applications of it and Sam's use of it is just one.
If one is making a replacement part for something that may be obsolete and unobtainable then yes but for what is essentially a cosmetic project then no.
Why.
Well it's very modus operandi dictates every thing is built up of layers which are very obvious to observe on the finished product. Harking back to our computer hobby there are quite a few people making 3D printed cases to house various peripherals for the Spectrum and quite frankly they look dreadful and ill fitting, buying a project case from the hobby shop would incur less time and expense and look half decent into the bargain.
Viewed from a short distance 3D constructions may look OK but close up horrible. I also cannot fathom why a modeller Like Sam would go to the expense a 3D printer plus consumables incurs just to manufacture something that looks badly homemade no matter how much paint is slathered onto it, in the vain hope of improving its looks, to use on a layout that strives for some kind of visual authenticity.
Just my view nothing more and no doubt other may not agree with me.
