I followed F1 in the late '60s and the 1970s, Fittipaldi and The (Super) Swede (in part for whom the cat is named) driving for Lotus/JPS, later Jackie Ickx. The Hunt/Lauda race to the Championship (I was a Hunt supporter). Innovations like the first real ground-effects cars, the six-wheel Tyrrell, just a great decade.
Circumstances pulled me away in the '80s and '90s, and by the time I could get back to it, it was all over. It became a business rather than a sport, technology masturbation over mechanical mastery, restrictive canned rules rather than strategy.
I follow it rather idly but can't get myself to invest the time to watch a race anymore. I'm glad I knew the era I knew, though.
