I lost interest in motor racing after the death of Miske Hawthorne and the withdrawal of the Vanwall team. In my day race cars were those bullet shaped front engined Maseratis, Mercedes etc that we all had Dinky models of and raced them on our steeply tilted playground.

Not only was I a fan of the Vanwall team but also the Corgi model of same because, unlike Dinky, Corgis had suspension, crude but effective and my car usually won because it tracked straight (ish) whereas the bumpy tarmac stone surface caused Dinky cars to bounce off in all directions!
