The solstice is upon us.

A very busy last couple weeks here. Finished the installation of a pair of SU carbs on the MGB, replacing the trusty Weber downdraught that has been a dependable albeit uninspired feature of the car for the last decade (hard to believe I've own it that long!)
Also a new exhaust brings it into line with the old "more in with more out" formula that is the reasonable yet oft forgotten traditional methodology for tuning these cars. The difference is apparent, but this time we aren't making a sportscar out of it but enhancing its ability to fulfil its role of a "gentleman's roadster". This is the car my wife enjoys cruising about in, so those qualities of pleasant sound, comfort, &c are important to maintain while picking up on the power a bit.
My son is getting more and more work in his chosen career. His is not something you just go to HR and get in after an interview, but one that you get jobs here, jobs there, and build your portfolio. Its a tough career, like any in the arts, and as jobs come at odd intervals and odd timings his borrowing one of our cars is becoming more of a dance-card issue as the frequency is going up.
So, a friend of mine's old Sub'y Forester in need of a new home has become a project; refreshing the engine with new head-gasket, timing belts and tensioners, the odd sensor, exhaust, and gearbox has gotten finished this week along with the bureaucratics such as title, reg, inspection.
So, the fleet goes up in number by one.
Lastly, the culmination of almost two years of medical nonsense that started with a bodged colonoscopy and the discovery of a family history of colon cancer has finally run its course this week with a full abdominal and pelvic MRI showing all is normal.
The less said about this whole schtick the better, but it featured clinical incompetence and laziness, paired with administrative power and billing excellence. Even though all is finally known and the right people are treating the right symptoms successfully, there still is the weariness and stress induced from the whole dam thing only lifted after two years of appointments and "tests". God, how medieval the American health system is, engineered to extort money from whatever source without need for actual "healing". It needs a complete shitcanning. Still, a relief now that things are known to be non-life-threatening.
Helluva week!
