Another rich full day of automotive excellence yesterday after the arrival of the replacement headlight pots mentioned a thread or two back:
Slipped the MGB out onto the drive and chucked a cover over it for the day, then brought Ratbag the Sub'y in, closed the door to keep the a/c in (it hit 90f yesterday) and queued the music.
In keeping with more modern cars, one has to unclip the grill and bumper skins to get to the important bits.
You can see how manky the old pots are. The near-side one had also suffered a seal failure so there was condensate inside the front clear bit. Once I had it off, it was clear there was more than mist; I poured a half-pint of water out of it.
This one a bit of a challenge to re-assemble as it has suffered a minor shunt to the front in its twenty years, the dam plastic push-clips that hold the skins on are stubborn and brittle, still able to get a good appearance though the shut-lines aren't quite perfect. Call it "character".
Some details today; aiming the lights, new intake air-filter, looking at the recalcitrant windscreen washer system, other such things.
This is my first real foray into 21st century car repair beyond operator level stuff. It's been very educational, headscratching at times, so-far pretty satisfying if I'm honest.
Not very exciting to post about, I know, but a year ago I couldn't dream of doing such work.
