Of course a matter of perspective, the Americans carrying the brunt of the Pacific war and the Soviets the eastern front against Hitler. There is currently a kneejerk about the latter, modern histories wanting to give majority credit to the Soviets mostly based on comparative casualty figures. The only thing that supports is the cost, not the effort, but civvie academics write the histories, not military professionals.
As far as the Great War, the American puffery doesn't wash with me given how much just the Somme cost my family. Americans will never understand the decimation of families from that war.
