Funny you should mention how quiet Maryland is at the moment as Wells seemed also very quiet for this time of year too and like yourself I'm sure money or lack thereof is the culprit.

A weeks stay at a reasonable place like where we stayed at stands you at a grand a week which is good for out-pricing and keeping away the low life's who make things unbearable back home but the price of food, entertainment, eating out etc has risen enormously so I suspect it is a factor.

The "Thank for your service" schtick you mention is prevalent on a lot of US TV shows shown over here, trotted out in a rote like monotone and I have to say it sounds so bloody insincere
