I finally made peace with it all.
I've run up the America250 flag, the original organisation that was to coordinate and grant the festivities and not the Toddler-in-Chief's "Freedom250" brand intended to highlight himself whilst trading on devisiveness.
Also posted on the workshop is the original flag of the new nation, often called the Grand Union Flag. All the mythology aside, this one was a déface of the Red Duster (the original colonial flag) where white stripes were sewn onto the field while the canton remained unmodified. It was at least a year later when the canton was replaced with the stars on a simple blue background. Therein lies the true origins of the design of the American flag, children!
Also we have the Pine Tree flag, a New England emblem.
The usual food about to be prepared, burgers and hotdogs on the grill. Fries (chips) about to go in the oven, a cherry pie already cooling out on the side porch.
Then we'll watch the musical, "1776" and a wonderful one-man play "Give 'em Hell, Harry". I saw the latter live in 1976 (the Bicentennial) at Fords Theatre, so fifty years on.
Its an almost unknown masterpiece, and well worth watching.
