Open AI and Anthropic have both gone public with admissions they had AI models "escape" and go rogue by somehow accessing the 'net, then actively hacking into other systems.

Today, Meta announces they have now had a similar incident with their AI product.

On the surface, one would think these three companies are being transparent and honest. I must admit, however, those are not traits any of them are known for.

With the amount of money dumped in this already and the potential for both power and wealth to be gained by these corporations and their leaders, the motivations are rather obvious.

The foundations, though, are very shaky. The cost to the average person for the infrastructure in the form of data centres and their demands on basic commodities such as water, power, and the physical environment they despoil, are rightfully starting to get legislative pushback on the state and local levels in the US. More concerning to the technocracy must be the market volatility, the "AI bubble" many are predicting is at the bursting point or dam near.

The perceptions are more and more negative. Already the currently limited capabilities are being used for reasons nefarious more obviously than for any benefit. The list of damning human behaviour with this newfound tech is long and took no time at all to put paid the notion this could be controlled for the good; the rewriting of history, "AI Slop", porn and virtual sexual exploitation, political and nationalist propaganda purposes especially by the autocrats and the autocratic superpowers like China, Russia, the US.

I must say the cynic in me wonders why these three have gone public with these incidents when those events are placed in the perspective of the previous few paragraphs. It all seems counter-intuitive, which has me to believe this is something far more calculated.

Are they trying to dress themselves in mantles of responsibility, good stewards of this new and somewhat frightening technology so as to calm those jitters? Odd way to go about it, I must admit, and I also admit I'm not buying it for a hot-minute. The whole "the Chinese are beating us in the AI race" justification has run its course, so are we now going to highlight that "we are serious about controlling the technology for the greater good" schtick? Rather odd from a corporate community that did so well with the social media.

Something self-serving is up with this. I can't believe this is anything but a preplanned and carefully orchestrated series of "events" now unfolding for our (or at least for the investors') benefit; a play in now three acts for reasons unsaid.

I can believe those reasons are not for the benefit of me, you, the general population living in the physical world, a world as abstract to these people as their artificial-construct world is to us. Responsibility, stewardship, citizenry, transparency, are all qualities that one does not list in the same sentence as Meta and the like.

Something is afoot.
