I must admit he is used to my calling him Pat. I talk to him every time I see him, and he comes down off the instinctive "flight" reaction very quickly and repeatably when I say, "Hello Pat" and continue in a calm tone.

He'll settle back down and start eating again, often facing me rather than side-eying me. He's gotten quite used to me and doesn't at all mind what I call him.
