We had strong KKK activity when I was very young, but learned absolutely nothing about that in school. I lived in a neighborhood where one night I saw a burning cross on the top of a hill called Mt. Washington. The Black family next door all went inside. Their little girl, prolly Monica, but I thought it was Harmonica, and I played together up until that cross burning. From then on, we could not play together. My parents weren't racist... at least my dad wasn't. Not so sure about my mom. She had a long list of neuroses.

I heard of it, but didn't learn the history untilnot too many years ago. I went to an all white rich kids school where columbus sailed the ocean blue in fourteen hundred ninety two, and not everything we learned was true.
You can look away from a painting, but you can't listen away from a symphony
