We have a friend who is in the hospital right now with multiple problems. He had multiple myeloma years ago that is coming back, plus heart problems (had a stent placed in his widowmaker artery a year ago) and he has COPD and bone problems, too. They just did two hip replacement surgeries and are now working on a new treatment for the cancer which is resurfacing. They are going full out trying to get him to a better place, and he is optimistic now even though having to go through some pain!
I was just thinking about how fortunate he is to have Medicare insurance, given that so many in our government these days are wanting to privatize everything. If they could have their way, only those who could afford it would get the care they need. Never mind that sick and disabled people are often unable to work or afford the care they need! And never mind that the cost of healthcare would likely go way up, too, since making money would be the top priority, and very few people would have the means that only the few at the top have now.
