That's not how I interpreted it. I understood it to mean that Trump would do anything to look the other way and blame the 'other side' than to look in his own camp and check to see if there was any affiliation between the shooter and MAGA.

The only way to know exactly what was in Kimmel's mind (and the writers) was to ask them directly. There have been no reports that they were asked. Instead of doing so, a quick decision was made and they suspended the show.
