My Lai really not all that rare. Infantry lost a much higher percentage of their personal, and some got to like having the power to kill. Whenever we had infantry sharing our territory, and our mess hall, everything was done not to mix with them.

For them, killing and being killed was close up and very personal. I often thought that many of them were crazy, and for very good reasons.

In artillery, the people you are targeting are miles away, and you never see the results. You only know what you are told, not knowing if what you're told is true or not.
