the yearly Star Wars conventions. There are Covil War & Revolutionary War conventions and week-long reenactment of battles. People get together as fairies, vampires, werewolves, kings & queens, and so on.

My youngest daughter flew to Japan with 2 friends last year to go to the Star Wars convention that lasted 2 weeks.

I don't see any harm in fantasy-land conventions or gatherings. However, when violence breaks out and people take things to such extremes that others are harmed, that's WAY too far.

Insular communities include dangerous cults like Jim Jones' cult. Any group that someone gets SO LOST IN is potentially a serious problem to individuals and especially outsiders.

What is needed is enough mental health providers to help people who are unhappy in their lives so they become wrapped up in something that isn't even real and begin to see outsiders as enemies.
