"In 2023, the first full year after the Roe v. Wade reversal, the rate increased to 15.9 abortions per 1,000 women (according to Guttmacher Institute estimates), representing an overall rise in national volume despite state-level bans. You can read the full CDC Abortion Surveillance Report for a comprehensive breakdown of these statistics."

got me to wondering...
The Kansas governor's seat is up for grabs since the two term Democrat governor cannot run again. So one of the ads on TV shows this Republican guy who is running (obviously a trumper) saying that there are more abortions now than ever. More? So I did some checking. Sure enough, the national abortion rate has gone UP since RvW was overturned in 2022. Before that, it was going down.
So how can that be? Is it because the economy is worse now? Less people can afford to have babies? Is it politics... because of cuts in welfare programs like SNAP and WIC, and healthcare? Or is it because less people want to have babies in today's world? Is it because women don't feel the love anymore, with misogyny, hate and blame on the rise... even threats to take away women's voting rights? It does make you wonder.
"According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. abortion rate fell by 3% from 2021 to 2022. In 2021, the rate was 11.6 abortions per 1,000 women aged 15–44, which decreased to 11.2 abortions per 1,000 women in 2022."
"An estimated 1,126,000 abortions were provided by US clinicians in 2025, largely unchanged from 2024, when there were 1,124,000 clinician-provided abortions, and an increase of 21% from 2020, the last year of comprehensive national estimates before Dobbs.1 This count includes medication abortions provided via telemedicine by US clinicians, including those provided under the protection of shield laws to patients in states with total bans. It does not include self-managed abortions, such as those using medications mailed from pharmacies outside the United States or sourced from community networks. Evidence suggests self-managed abortions have increased since Dobbs.2"

Notice that the "clinician" abortion rate began to increase after Trump took office in 2016. Also, the abortion pill (mifepristone) or "medication" abortion rate has increased as well.
"Medication abortion using mifepristone accounted for roughly 63% of all abortions in the formal US healthcare system. This marks a steady increase from 53% in 2020, driven by the expansion of FDA-approved telehealth prescribing and the enactment of state shield laws, which now account for nearly half of all telehealth procedures. The combined two-drug regimen (mifepristone and misoprostol) is highly effective, with success rates over 95% and complication rates well below 1%."
