I'd say the boy was the luckier of the two, personally.

Some years ago I hit a deer on the way home - it had loped across a divided highway, and I found out when it was suddenly front of me. Hit the brakes bust slammed into the hindquarters. Luckily it did not come through the windshield. Did a heckuva lotta damage to the front end, though.

Moose are much worse than that, though..
