I left.
Majorette chose all the songs for the last time.
The church had a corps review from DHQ and this was the total congregation,
from the ~30 they inherited from our previous and much loved pastor.
I don't believe it went well.
She schooled me about music, about church music, and Christian contemporary music, the No. 1 hits... all kinds of stuff. She is clueless about the work I did to make our music possible. My guitar players don't read music and play from leads sheets. So I prepared those. Hymns and songs from TSA Songbook and Tune Book are written to accompany beginning brass players and are often in wretched tessitura for singing. I transposed them so the congregation could sing them, and the guitarists could play them. She often chose whiny, poorly written contemporary Christian music sung by "artists" using too many vocal gymnastics, while sounding like they're having orgasms. Nobody sang along. She preferred to play videos of those rather than let us do the music live, minus the orgasms. Majorette plays the tambourine and sings like an off key hinge.
Before them. one of the congregation members loved what we did so much, during one service he recorded his favorite song; Amazing Grace
I wrote the arrangement and played clarinet. We had flute, clarinet, trombone, two guitars, and bass for this tune. It was a warm, welcoming, friendly feeling.
She ran off the congregation. She talks nothing but Jesus. OCD Jesus Jesus Jesus, but is at best indifferent to people, and often mean. The social services during the week are mostly gone. After she reamed and screamed at the volunteers, they left. The Kids Closet clothing service was closed because "we don't do that. That's what thrift stores are for." The food pantry is almost bare. They do "social services" once a week for half a day. She kicked out the girl scouts, AA, and the Gold Panning Club. She made herself a pariah. Her husband does nothing to reign her in. Nobody does. She's a nasty, mean little Pakled.
Before this appointment, in another church they told the band they HAD to leave the stage before she preached and come back in to sit in the congregation. Then resume place on stage for closing numbers, and I bet she chose all the songs there too. They objected and pushed back, so she dismissed them. Then the congregation most all left.
If they were sent here to close down a church, they may have succeeded.
So I am done and moving on. I believe I know my next direction. I am at peace with it.
