Very confusing! Cologne in English (or colone, like the perfume) and Cologne in French sounds like Colonia, also how they say the word for the perfume When we were there last summer, we saw road signs that were confusing, as some said "Koln" and others said "Cologne"

It's spelled 'Köln' (I'd love to see the 'Kölner Dom,' the Cologne Cathedral). The German umlauted 'o' is an odd sound, anyway. It and umlauted 'u' are their two hardest sounds. I think 'Cologne' is a French name the Americans picked up. Germans never call it that. -greenman
