(spoilers)" ADMIN The damaged nerve is waking up again and blowing up like an active volcano with pain so intense that literally nothing brings it below an 8 out of 10, even near overdose levels. Nerve pain is THE worst. BUT the upside is that the atrophied muscles dont have dead nerve roots, they have angry, but alive ones that are now waking and roaring. That means I CAN earn back those atrophied muscles and be able to control my left leg again. Working through that pain is the bugaboo that will make this take so long and hurt so much, but it is at least DOable.

You have to work through the pain, but at least you CAN and will work through it! Hopefully the pain will get less and less, and at least be manageable eventually. I think of you so often, just aching for you. I know what it is like to work through the pain. When I began to walk on my healing broken/injured foot, it was very painful, but I was determined to walk as though I had no pain at all and no injury at all, because I felt it was the only way I was going to avoid the future pain of having my whole body be off kilter and out of balance if I just gave into the pain and walked with a limp. I am convinced that that was what helped me recover to the maximum extent possible. My husband walked two miles with me every day. I just wish I could be there beside you and help the way that he did with me!

That is so very kind what he did for you! Sometimes I get so overwhelmed by the pain that I just want to give up and it's my PT or OT who currently pushes me to keep going. I can't have family members involved with that stuff. Too distracting. The nerve is alive, but if it refuses to eventually calm down as the muscle re-enervates, I may gain control over moving my leg how I want to, but then also be stuck with the pain. IF that happens, I already told my neurosurgeon that I want her to kill the nerve and I'll just start over teaching other functionung muscles to take over. They are already starting to do that so it could be relatively easy... comparatively speaking. Life would not be worth living if the current degree of pain that nerve is dishing out doesn't resolve or lessen considerably to manageable levels. It is honestly THAT BAD when an injured or stretched nerve roars back to life. It is constantly screaming at me and "treating me" to sensations like feeling thousands of sharp pins being stuck into my foot and toes, while blowing up the rest of my leg and setting it on fire at the same time.

You certainly don't want to live with that kind of pain indefinitely. I'm glad there is an alternative plan if the current one doesn't work.
