Skye, if that Bambi was alone again today with no Mum in sight, then Posted by Sia on July 24, 2026, 12:10 pm ADMIN it's likely an orphan because does only leave their fawns alone, while hidden in heavy brush, to feed in the days after their birth when they can't get around quickly. By now, they are always with their mothers for safety and learning how to survive. Do it a favor and call your F&G to come get the little guy to help him/her survive to adulthood, because it will be food for predators soon enough.

She told me to put my boots on, take some binoculars, a rope and a blanket, and go see if I could find it and catch it. And if I could find it and lasso it or throw a blanket over it... to check and see if it was loaded with ticks, because if it was, that means the mother hasn't been taking care of it. I told her if I could get it in my fenced barnyard, then someone from her rehab center could come get it. So I suited up in my combat gear (long sleeves and pants to guard against ticks) and took up my sword (a tree branch to tear down the spider webs and spiders... oh I hate spiders almost as much as you do!) and went trapsing around in the woods with my husband (reluctant husband) looking for Bambi. Didn't find him. Some thick brush, trees, grass, etc. Very difficult to see. But... I did reposition my wildlife camera and put some fresh batteries in it, so maybe something will turn up on that? Didn't even see any ticks when we checked each other, thankfully. The things I get myself into....

From Google: In summer, young fawns transition from a pure diet of rich doe's milk to nibbling on tender green plants. By mid-to-late summer, older fawns are mostly weaned and actively eat soft grasses, clover, forbs (wildflowers and weeds), tender leaves, and fresh woody browse alongside their mothers. ---- They also love fruits. Any fruits currently available are safe to offer. They absolutely adore apples but it's a bit too early to put many of those out because their stomachs have to be ready for them. One might be fine though, just to lure it in. You can gather dandelions, clover, wildflowers, blueberries, raspberries in a pile you watch to ensure the fawn eats it but chase away other animals. Even a salt lick. I hope you can capture or corral it.
