It was easy to go over. Hunting quail is like hunting pheasant. They scare the shit out of you as you approach them when they suddenly take off and you have to fire quick. Their coveys frequently had more than twelve and one shot would exceed the limit. We always respected the limit laws, but when we went over, we did not leave any behind. There were no game wardens around in the Arizona desert to be found.
