at times gave us difficulty. Spain, though officially neutral during WWII, was fascist and gave Germany preferences when it came to trade. They also occasionally blocked roadway access to British owned, but Supreme Allied Command used, Gibraltar. In the early 2000s Spain seemed to encourage violent protests at the US owned Rota naval base.
I was at Diego Garcia for a short time before Operation Desert Storm in 1990 and there was absolutely no problem at that time.
During 0bama's last year in office, Turkey restricted US access to our Incirlik AFB.
But mostly this has been occurring in conjunction with Britain's near takeover by the left and Islamists.
They aren't making many of us comfortable with their Greenland obstinacy. We aren't likely to get access whenever we need it. Our access will be at the whim of whatever European political winds are blowing.
