setting it all up. My AT&T bill will be $60 per month instead of the $154 a month they tried to stick me with.

The reason I kept my land line is that was the only phone I had after each of a few hurricanes. After hurricane Michael we were without cell phone service for over a month. If my landline were an airborne signal I'd anticipate the same problems as the cell phones have had.

The installer said there is no rain fade and if no power it has a 48 hour batter within it.

landline coverage. One knocked out cellphone coverage for over a month. The nearest cellphone tower blocked a road and crushed a house as it toppled over.

What is a power outage?

Guess I should explain that around here the telephone lines are underground.

Forgot that some areas still have them running overhead on "Telephone" (Power) poles. The telephone company hasn't actually owned poles in decades but the name stuck.

Telephone poles and lines are still the norm here, although they're being put underground now in all new subdivisions. It's a mess after hurricanes with dangerous live wires lying across roadways.

Personally, I think it would be an excellent move (for all states who are in hurricane territory) for builders to automatically add in whole-house generators as a necessary part of the house plan so that the costs could be worked into the mortgage rather than being a one-time emergency expense for the homeowner for a mediocre one that still cost at least a couple or three thousand out-of-pocket.

In reality, whole house generators are a huge luxury...

...All of my neighbors have them. None has run for more than a couple of hours during outages in over 4 years. That is a huge expense for a couple of hours of air conditioning.

I have a small portable unit. It has not been used in a power outage in 4 or 5 years. The longest it has run since about 2020 is when I ran the gasoline out of it in the driveway.

Still, I think it would not be that much more of a burden if stretched out over a 30-year mortgage. You live in Texas which, while you do experience hurricanes, doesn't begin to compare with living in FL, GA, SC and NC - where power outages from hurricanes can last for weeks on end.
