The closure of the transmitter was delayed for 24 hours. Georges Lang, who has hosted the programme Les Nocturnes starting at midnight since he joined RTL on 1971 posted on Twitter (English translation)
"Regarding the final shutdown of RTL's GO [Long Wave] transmitter in Beidweiler, it has been postponed somewhat and should take place on Sunday evening at 1 a.m. , i.e. at the end of the New Year's Nocturnes. Thank you to the BCE technicians for preserving this weekend. end of the New Year on the Grandes Ondes [Long Wave]"
He tweeted again about the Longwave closure the next day.
RTL Today, Luxembourg's English news website, posted a report about the closure yesterday. It includes Georges' tweet and a 2 minute TV report about the transmitters closure in French. Georges is the first person interviewed.

Les Nocturnes featured UK and US pop, rock and country music. Some might remember I think two features he did on the programme about 60's offshore radio with plenty of audio clips.
