Re: RTL Radio French service on 234 KHZ LW closed
Looking around the internet on the subject , RTL had concluded that the audience still listening on Longwave was very small and getting smaller all the time. The huge power needed was getting very expensive - the transmitted power was listed as 1500 Kilowatts. There is already a very large solar farm at the site and the three Longwave towers will be removed and the space covered with even more solar panels. There is a VHF transmitter mast at the site as well for FM and DAB+ which will remain. It's a very large site and can be seen for many miles around at the moment. Sadly, most of these AM closures are without ceremony now as said above as few people have any affection for them now.
