In my town the demographic was let’s say more mature and no doubt JY was enjoyed by the elder populous.
I don't listen to him or Radio 2 much at all (which some might say is grounds itself to comment). I am sure he is a fine presenter. I know too that the Radio 2 playlist contains some current and so more varied music than his next station. I wonder how many of his many listeners will move with him versus, frankly, don't know how/find it too tricky to find him and will instead grumble for a while then stick with what they hear.
I appreciate I may be being ageist/bigoted, based on the fact I have always associated R2 with chambermaids and the dentist.
In summer 78, when we were on hols in Kent, I was dumfounded how, with THREE pirates on (briefly), the place had JY on all over.
It seems Ken Bruce is to leave BBC R2 and join Greatest Hits Radio in April.
Pop Master is going with him.
After the earlier removal of the SWINTA program this will leave R2 nothing of any note to listen to during the day.
