"On board the MV Mi Amigo when it set sail from the Netherlands in 1974 were the following people:
Wil van der Steen, the ship's captain
Norbert, a disc jockey
Several engineers and technicians
A crew of about 20 people
The Mi Amigo was one of several ships that were broadcasting pirate radio stations off the coast of England in the 1970s. These stations were popular with listeners who wanted to hear music that was not available on the BBC or commercial radio stations.
The Mi Amigo was eventually seized by the British government in 1975 and towed away from the coast. The ship was later sold and renamed the MV Ross Revenge, which continued to broadcast pirate radio until 1990."
Yes that seems to be a major shortcoming of the "AI" bots, they cannot read PDF's and I imagine they ignore forums also, they scan websites, which is bound to lead to misinformation. What is really needed is a bot that can scan published works from the library which are generally more reliable than random websites which can be manipulated up the search page order by various means.
Sadly these "things" are being integrated into the various Assistants, and browsers.
Yes amazing what articles pop up on the net.
I think I will keep a copy of this one.
Hi,
I guess that this ' thing ' you are consulting will look for widely published/available info and will thus give you the widely accepted version of Ronan and the station i.e. how it was founded.
It is Haggers assertion that the widely held views are wrong.
This raises three points for me, the first being that even if he is 100% correct, nobody actually cares. Next, it is ' his opinion ' that the present day Radio Caroline has nil connection to the original Caroline. All the libellous spite and venom that he throws at me is based on a personal opinion.
Finally, when people ask me what I did for a living, the easy and short answer is ' motor mechanic '. In fact I started work in 1964 for the firm that made Zenith, Solex and Stromberg carburettors. After a while I started to design and devise products to sell, then I became the technical advisor for the company. Then I wrote articles and books about how carburettors functioned and then resigned to start my own firm selling and repairing these products. I sold my business in 1998.
So if Hagger was actually the forensic researcher he presents himself as being, he would surely know all of the above, but in fact he knows nothing. If he can be so wrong about me, why should anything else he says be believed ?
PM.
I asked the ChatGPT bot to fact check the first page of the MH site, this was the response:
"I was unable to find any reliable sources that support the claim that Ronan O’Rahilly was paid to lie in order to deceive. Ronan O’Rahilly was the founder of Radio Caroline, the first pirate radio station off the UK, which was founded in 1964 to compete with the BBC and launched the careers of many well-known DJs. There are many sources that discuss his life and work, but I could not find any information about him being paid to lie. Is there anything else you would like me to fact-check?
According to my sources, Radio Caroline was founded in 1964 by Ronan O’Rahilly and Alan Crawford initially to circumvent the record companies’ control of popular music broadcasting in the United Kingdom and the BBC’s radio broadcasting monopoly. There are different accounts of how the name ‘Caroline’ was chosen for the station. One account suggests that O’Rahilly named the station after seeing a picture of President John F Kennedy’s daughter, Caroline, on the cover of Life magazine. Another account suggests that it came from his then-girlfriend, Caroline Maudling, who wrote a Travelling Teenager column in the Daily Mail and was the daughter of the Conservative chancellor of the exchequer, Reginald Maudling. However, I could not find any reliable sources that support the claim that “the true details of how and why the name ‘Caroline’ was originally selected has never been explained anywhere else by any other author in context and in detail” as stated in your text. Is there anything else you would like me to fact-check?"
LOL, well actually that's one of the few things we can't blame on MH, it was the Bing Chat Bot that came up with that gem, being curious I asked about myself, apparently my station was closed by a police raid in 1982 (it was never raided) and as for me according to Bing I died in 2019
As for the MH site, I read as much as I could tolerate, and I imagine it's stuff PM has seen, it's been there for a while and it's hard to find someone he hasn't libelled. It seems to be a collection of all his ramblings in one blog. As you say best ignored.
LOL Mark, seems that MH has been in touch with the dead - Graham, must a a REAL Caroline spirit
I'd never seen this site until the bot pointed it out, it is registered on Nominet in the UK so there's a chance of a takedown.
The bot also helpfully recommended the Radio Day in Harlingen on May 13th, where it assured me Graham Gill would be speaking, truly an Easter Miracle, he has risen.
I'm afraid until MH is certified, & removed from accessing the Internet - it's best to Ignore him.
A bit like we ignore junk mail & emails.
A few queries about Radio Caroline on these bots suggest they have been fed false information by the usual suspect MH. Many links lead to his phoney history sites, god knows how many domains he bought to back up his garbage. It is important to correct this information by giving the bot the correct sites to look for information and history about offshore radio. It's probably a losing battle as there is no peer review as with Wikipedia where MH has also tried to change history.
One site in particular came up which I will not list but it contains articles which I believe are libellous to PM. Peter, if you want to check it please drop me a line studio@skyportradio.com and I will send you the link to review
