I wonder if the true story, of how he managed to raise the huge amount of money, to bring about the fitting out of the Ross Revenge in the early 1980s & getting it to Knock deep.
If a book is ever written about that, it would probably be a best seller
Thank you Freddie,
For those kind comments. But I view my job as trying to recover Caroline with insufficient resources from a situation it never should have been in. Progress such as it has been, has been too slow.
The marked change is that we stopped ripping people off
You must stop denying reality. As far back as 1964 or earlier, Chris Moore or maybe Ian Ross, decribed Ronan's modus operandi by saying ' To him the whole thing is a game, the subject is not important. The game is to identify money or a possession belonging to someone else and to do whatever it takes so that it becomes Ronan's possession or that the money goes in Ronan's pocket. Then the game is won and it is time for the next game '.
Lyn Gilbert observed the same behaviour in 1974 to 1980. Where Ronan told her ' this is how I have been doing business for years ' and Lyn said in effect ' yes, but look where it leads to '.
The first joint project I did with the man in 1986 or so, involved a determined attempt to obtain goods by deception. But I soon noticed that if this had caused an investigation and prosecution that I would be in the frame and not him.
I spent some amusing and interesting times with the chap, but let us not assume he was a Saint until he became ill. He was an amusing rogue when he had all his faculties and a sad failing rogue as his illness commenced and increased. But always a rogue.
PM.
"Rotterdam" Yes, LOL.
It does sound like Ronan's health problems were beginning in those days, sadly often not recognisable by the person, or their associates.
Peter, I'm sometimes amazed you have stayed the course, with such difficult people to deal with.
Very pleased you have, because who else could have kept Caroline on such a steady & determined course?
I guess Caroline is very much like a preserved steam engine railway, a lot of voluntary help & donations from those that love these old engines But you still have to find the money to buy the coal ! (I hear there may be a shortage of that in the future from a UK mine)
