As a PS to that, Apparently - if you have a failing hard drive, they can sometimes be temporarily revived for a short time, by freezing them (Put in a freezer)
Then, with little delay as they will warm up, the data can sometimes be extracted.
I think it was Rob Ashard, who gave me that tip.
