I've not checked as there are much more important things in life these days but if the 19th August 1983 return was incorrect then it may be down to me to some extent.
On 19th August 1989 while the 'thugs' were coming onto the Ross and carrying out their dastardly deeds, I mentioned to Nigel Harris that I believe Caroline had returned that day 6 years previous. It was then mentioned on air by Nigel, if I recall.
Of course we had no internet then, no other means of checking, and we crew were busy and under an incredible amount of duress and emotional distress. As a result some facts may have gone adrift that dreadful day. So on reflection looking back, aligning the dates may have had some impact on what was happening to the station that weekend for journalistic purposes at least. History certainly can never be rewritten!
I've been reading the interesting thread on both sites, the one where everyone seems banned. I haven't and I'm reasonably positive in my Caroline posts, but I digress. It's amazing how facts get messed up or others opinions become facts.
With this in mind I've come across lots, like Can't buy me love was the first song, but after a while it was not fade away.
August 19th 1983 is now banded about as Caroline's return, however the official return was 12 midday on the 20th.
Same as Caroline started on Easter Sunday when in fact 12 midday on the 28th was a Saturday, plus the first test was on the Friday.
I find it fascinating because being a sad anorak I do love getting dates right. But what I love more is people's recollections and their side of the story, because often no two stories are the same.
Anyway with this in mind loved listening to the dawn of the Ross programmes and others recollections. Had a very long journey down the west country and listened all the way with four very minor dropouts.
Thanks to everyone for a cracking days broadcasting and so looking forward to my return journey tonight. Not so much for the driving as by the time I got there I could hardly move
