No doubt, the lack of Mi Amigo money was a factor - the ship was also in a poor state in general, I can vouch for that when I went aboard in Nov 79 for the final time.
If those who's recollections are better than mine after all these years - please correct any errors.
They were very brave & dedicated people, who worked on the ship in those days. I have no doubt about that.
it was odd that a disastrous generator failure or whatever it was put the station off air, yet later that night there were coded messages going out on AM, meaning everything was working ok to some degree
Later in 79, I believe the Yellow Genny arrived on the back deck - which was powerful enough to power the 50, & was used - but it was designed for 50hz & running it at 60hz (required by the American TX equipment) caused to the be unstable. In those days, the speed of record decks (with synchronas motors) , was tied to mains frequency - hence the wow on some Mi Amigo recordings
