Think that is a little unfair. Roger is as difficult as we all are, or are not as the case may be.
As far as I understand it, he said he wanted to be part of the 60th celebrations, but wanted to do a show he gets paid for on Boom Radio from the Ross and the fine details could not be ironed out and therefore he did not do a programme. He was, or was not invited to do a non paid programme for Radio Caroline. His schedule probably didn't allow for it and with all the publicity, him being a Caroline presenter of old he could use the publicity of the 60 years anniversary to get paid for doing what he makes a living from.
He probably felt, quite justifiably that he had donated enough of his time doing free programmes and then was a little annoyed that he did not get the respect from an identity called Radio Caroline that celebrated 60 years of its existence that likes to feel it is related to the original concept.
Then quite rightly he says sod it I'm taking my talent and they are not going to benefit from my hard work (Presenting is one of his income streams)
He wanted to use the Boom Radio show to create publicity for his own show and himself. Today's Radio Caroline collaborates with Manx Radio today and the joint benefit seems to work for both.
I'm sure if Radio Caroline and the management of it could see a benefit they would have gone ahead with it. If it was me I would have said yes but stipulated that you mention that it is Roger Day breakfast show, broadcasting on Boom Radio across the nation on DAB and also on Radio Caroline on 648khz mw and via Apps and smart speaker. I would have also said they had to publicise the dry dock appeal.
They obviously didn't come to an agreement and Roger doesn't need to broadcast on Caroline and certainly doesn't fit the Album Service and as for the Flashback service it aims for the same audience and has very little to gain and probably would not have been publicised either.
From an anorak point of view it's probably a little sad in our rose tinted glasses, but no different from not hearing Neil on the current Caroline, sad but that's life. People don't get on with everyone and that's what happens. The current Caroline is here, you either listen and like it or you don't and it is only a radio station after all.
Some of these *famous* offshore djs can be difficult to work with. It would seem that Roger Day would be one of those
That's true - for the Satellite broadcasts.
He was on a lot from the Maidstone TV studios
