Colin Nichol was the first UK offshore radio station DJ to be hired in September 1963 by Ken Evans who was setting up Radio Atlanta. He started to set up their Dean Street studios, Bryan Vaughan joined shortly afterwards.

Colin was panel operator when Simon Dee, John Junkin, Carl Conway and others recorded programmes to be broadcast when Caroline started. Caroline didn't have their own studios then. He was the first DJ on Atlanta presenting the breakfast show.

When Caroline used the Cheeta 2 following the grounding of the Mi Amigo Colin went onboard to take care of the fitting of the studios and equipment for the transfer from FM to AM transmissions on 199 together with two techicians. He says those two months were his happiest at sea.
