But up to this time the Brazilian Govt doesn't care, instead today's Bank of Brazil asked Black people for forgiveness. Thats about it. NO financial reparations. I'm sure lots of educated Afro-Brazilians are not satisfied with a simple "verbal" sorry. Previous Message
"""I'm sure, theone, that the state of protest in some of these countries is not as distressing as you describe"""
As you said, due to my experience around parts of the globe, yes it is upsetting in countries like Tunisia, Lebanon, Egypt and even India and Mauritania where the ppl in question have spoken and marched in some cases but to no avail. Govt's in those countries are literally "deaf" when it comes to the injustices faced by their "minorities".
Will read your Accra article below in a few. Thanks! Previous Message
I'm sure, theone, that the state of protest in some of these countries is not as distressing as you describe. I know in Brazil there is a nascent and growing reparations movement, and Ghana has an interesting approach to the issue (Post below). Surely with your ethnic background and broad international travel, plus your life in Morocco, you've experienced far far more negative bulls--t than I, which I can fully appreciate your bleak outlook on much of humanity. I get it. But, I am just giving my best effort to help in my small small way to organize against that BS.

Ha-ha-ha-, kudos to JP Bouchillon and Stanley O'Rourke, may they both rest in peace eternally, INDEED. The reason I've started laughing was because after reading the subject I immediately thought of India,.. I don't remember reading any Indian story where some Brahmans died on behalf of those marginalized "Untouchables" who represent more than 160 million ppl there. (again talking about the oppressed Brahmans MF's)
Thanks for the info, Maestro, never heard of this story coming from Bogalusa, LA. Btw, "Bouchillon" sounds very much like a French name. Yup, two White Americans, one of French origins and the other Irish, died for saving the live of a negro unionist. Strange, there are many other countries out there where Black ppl were slaves, but they NEVER had a John Brown, or Bouchillon or Gorton, or Jonathan Daniels, or Father James Groppi, or Anne McCarty Braden, or Christopher Chandler, or our dear Bernie Sanders etc etc etc to mention a few, all were White folks, all dead except Bernie.
AND ON TOP OF THAT THE ONLY COUNTRY OUT OF ALL THE COUNTRIES WHERE BLACKS WERE ENSLAVED THE U.S WILL PROBABLY BE THE FIRST TO PAY SOME SORT OF REPARATIONS TO BLACK FOLKS, AND PROBABLY FOLLOWED BY WESTERN EUROPE AND AUSTRALIA LATER IN THE PROCESS. NOW, Back to the oppressed MF, how about Saudi-Arabia(its a rich country right?), How about Brazil? How about India? How about Colombia? How about Mexico? How about Iraq? LOL, reparations is not even in their discussion or in their pysche, although these oppressed countries have enslaved Blacks long before North America was colonized. Previous Message
Today, 1919, the Bogalusa, Louisiana Massacre occurred. It is considered the most dramatic display of interracial labor solidarity in the Deep South during the first half of the twentieth century.
Two white union carpenters, JP Bouchillon and Stanley O'Rourke, armed with shotguns, accompanied Sol Dacus to the local Central Trades and Labor Hall where they sought refuge for him. Dacus was the head of the newly-formed black section of the International Union of Timber Workers in Bogalusa, Louisiana. Several attempts had been made on his life, including his home being riddled with bullets while his wife and children were present.
The courts issued a "disturbing the peace" arrest warrant for all three men and a posse of armed company men from the Great Southern Lumber Company assembled to confront them leading to a gunfight. Both Bouchillon and O'Rourke lost their lives and provided Sol Dacus the opportunity to escape.
