Never heard of him but given those he's influenced, speaks for his legendary status.
I've always felt my favorite bass guitar players were Mel Shacher who played for Grand Funk Railroad (dude use to storm!!), Larry Graham of Sly Stone, Ashton Barrett (Bob Marley) etc.
I don't like bass players who are too Jazzy or play like lead guitarists. Yuck!
