Wow!!! Today is the 120th anniversary of the Chicago Defender. From a personal perspective, the Defender played an integral role in my political maturation. I recall reading it while in the Air Force in 1966; a Black Sgt I knew would always have a copy of it in our office. Below, an article on the paper's rich history from the Howard Zinn website:
