lol, I can't believe you didn't had the chance to speak to Suraj(photo below) himself,..that would've been great,..and yes, I am familiar with the work of Suraj on the Dalit caste. As you know me already I usually focus on the second or third class citizens of any country in the developing world, which includes Palestine, India, Egypt, Yemen, Iran, Honduras or whatever. Coz these marginalized populations in those countries seem to be "hidden" from the mass media(especially television) and only their elites(or dominant groups, or the lighter skinned ones) are projected to us by the powers that be.
Anyway Saraj is one of my favorite scholars, first-generation Dalit scholar educated across continents, challenges deep-seated beliefs about caste and unpacks its many layers. He describes his gut-wrenching experiences of growing up in a Dalit settlement in India and the multiple humiliations suffered by Dalits on a daily basis. I which Gnawa ppl can read his work, thats if they can read.
