The only issue I have with Socialism is a tendency to underplay the significance of race in our daily lives- gm
Yes, the class over race argument has impacted Black enthusiasm for socialism and recruitment of them into the rank and file of socialist parties including my own DSA party. Current membership is estimated at about 5% Black. But we have seen an uptick over the last few years because of the recent electoral success of Mamdani and Ocasio-Cortez, both of whom were urged by the DSA to run. And both were DSA members before being elected. Also, The DSA has implemented the Afrosocialists and Socialists of Color Caucus. https://www.dsausa.org/working-groups/afrosocialists-and-socialists-of-color-caucus/
Socialists today overwhelmingly regard the fight against racial oppression as crucial to the fight against capitalism.
gm, I know you are a prolific reader, and I wonder if you heard of the book on this topic we are discussing entitled, "Race and the Origins of American Socialism by Lorenzo Costaguta?" (University of Illinois Press, 2023). Very Good read.
Also, an interesting and obscure Black historical figure and socialist has some very interesting views you might enjoy. Maybe you know of him already: https://blackpast.org/african-american-history/1877-peter-h-clark-socialism-remedy-evils-society/

For Black folks to be more welcoming of the socialist message, you'll have to breakthrough the stranglehold the Democratic party has over too many of the corrupt & wicked Black Misleadership Class.
The only issue I have with Socialism is a tendency to underplay the significance of race in our daily lives.
Btw, let's remember Jesse Jackson's message during his run for president was basically a socialist one, and it was well received by the Black masses.
And let's not forget how despicably the Black Democratic establishment acted toward Bernie Sanders - John Lewis at one point dismissed Bernie's participation in the Civil Rights struggle. Shameful!!
