By gosh, you are on to something, gm. That's exactly where the Civil Rights focus was back in the 60's under the leadership of Rustin, Randolph and MLK. It was focused on lifting the Black poor and working class. However, their passing led to a fracturing of the coalition, which was then taken over by kumbaya liberals who believed in the capitalist system and nonprofits that were sponsored mainly by corporate America. And that is the leadership to this very day. The 60's Civil Rights movement was able to put race into a broader context, away from identity politics. The Poor Peoples Campaign being one example. There was clearly a threat to the ruling class with MLK and company, unlike today's movement. Sadly, libs and nonprofits have no desire to challenge the real enemy- our ruling class.

Huh?????
So william Clark had children with a Black woman?
William Clark of 'Lewis and Clark'?
First i'm hearing of this.
I knew they had Black folks with them during their expeditions but...
So Peter H. Clark is his grandson - a mixed race abolitionist?
Wow, I need to get back to this......
Btw, i'm all for outreach to increase the Black presence in the DSA, but hopefully not the kind of identity politics which has crippled the Democratic party. I don't want Black faces, I want legit black faces with strong agendas targeting the Black poor & working class.
Just thought i'd add this bit.
