And while the 60s focused on experimental rock and soul with "political themes", the 70s embraced diversity, technical virtuosity, and stylistic fragmentation, moving from psychedelic unity to eclectic niches. By the way I feel the same way you feel when it comes the 2000's musical era, there is nothing that interest me except if its a good, real good, house mix or remix vibrations. other than that I go straight back to my old school sounds/rhythms. And that's of course 70s and 80s. I wasn't around in most of the 60s. LOL

Not a big fan of the glitz and glamour era of pop. I guess it has its place, but it never interested me. In my era of clubbing, the music and culture was very different. Boomers my age were confronted with political issues. The Vietnam war was taking many of our lives. The music defiantly spoke out against this. To go from songs like 4 dead in Ohio to the shake your booty bullshit of the late a 70's and early 80's was quite a letdown for many of us.

Didn't know they hailed from Guyana, Les. I thought they were originally Surinamese since Suriname use to be a Dutch colony, plus in the Netherlands folks do speak English as well. Good research, and thanks for the info.
As for marketing after living in 3 different countries, I've noticed that the U.S charts/radio airplay rarely considers foreign songs/bands. Maybe today it has changed a bit but back in the 80s it was a rare phenomenon. Back in the day I knew several Black bands from Europe that were successful and kicking it, but when I mentioned them to AA, they simply never heard of them.

Indeed, Mai Tai had a great beat, TheOne, but I don’t think the U.S. marketed that song “History” as well as they could have. I suppose it depends on how long a song is on the charts, how much advertising money is spent, etc. Hmmm, that’s why I need to ensure my book covers those marketing intersections as a movie.
Yes, they seem like a U.S. group, but they were based in the Netherlands. They were produced by the Dutch — the three singers hail originally from Guyana, so they were native English speakers.

1985 was just such a golden time for pop music. Guess which country the "Mai Thai Band" are from? Amsterdam, Netherlands. And for all these years I thought they were a U.S band. Ha
Used to feel great walking into a nightclub in the 80s and this was blasting out. Everyone on the dance floor. Great memories!!!
