Please don't shoot me Mr Maestro, but I'm not a big fan of Rev. Barber. I think he's too much of a liberal romantic whose message is aimed at a white liberal sensitivity, not a black one. If you notice closely, there ain't that many black folks at his gatherings. And I'm also uncomfortable with some of the liberal organiztions & so-called NGOs funding him.
To my thinking, what the Black community needs right now is economic empowerment, a Black consciousness movement, an emphasis on tightly educating our children, and more respect & love towards Black women. 😆..I think we've had enough kuumbaya movements. There.
BUT THEN, i'm a huuuge fan of Robert Reich! If only he'd ran for president or senate etc. Dude is legit and a brainiac.
gm, I am impressed with everything I've read about Rev. Barber. His message differs little from Bernie Sander's income inequality message, and I'm reminded of the MLK era when i hear him speak of organizing a broad-based coalition to fight Trump. As for Reich running for president, I'm all for it; however, do you think the American voter would go for a a man who stands only 4 feet and 11 inches with dysplasia?

I get your take, but at this point, and given the current Trump-klan atmosphere, I'm not sure Barber's approach is what's needed. I think more militant approaches are needed - I think Code Pink, Jewish Voice for Peace, etc., are a better fit. I don't feel the same energy for Barber that I get from Bernie or AOC, or even for Jasmine Crockett. Just being honest. And there's also Elizabeth Warren too.
Maestro, as we speak Rev Barber is leading a march in Washington...
Just saw a clip of it on MSNBC.. Don't think anyone else is covering it..
Rev Barber is again dressed in his overflowing white & red robe.. Almost looks Pope-ish in his atire and walking stick.. Brother need to lose weight though..lol
Anyway, big Props to Rev William Barber. Amen
Re: Maestro, as we speak Rev Barber is leading a march in Washington...
Well, everyone should embrace their space, in the movement, in this hour. I think Rev. Barber with his "Moral Monday's" movement is the right person to interrogate the "moral majority" underbelly of the right. They want to position themselves as the moral arbiters of the country, but at the same time they embrace the consciousness that hides the reality of the Black patriarchs of Christendom. Currently, because of racism, there's this chasm between Black and white Christians that simply should not be. So, I think he should address the racist depictions, within Christendom, and bring folks like me in to point out the facts. Gen. 10 is the table on nations. If they want to hold up the banner of Christianity, they should, at minimum, respect the patriarchs and depict them as they should be represented.
And, frankly, if the media will focus on the blatant misrepresentations, and Barber addresses the hypocrisy, well, he could cover a lot of ground in mitigating normative influences that are simply wrong. How is it possible to do movies on the Hebrews and Egyptians and Assyrians, etc., and depict them as European looking? when we have the primary source depictions of how they looked. I've been to the Valley of the Kings. I know what Rameses looked like, as far as skin color. I've been to the British Museum--I've seen the depictions of the Hebrews. They looked just like their neighbors, the Assyrians, Egyptians, etc., not the fake modern artists drawings depicted in today's media. Folks like us know what they looked like. So if the moral majority will consciously lie to our face about that, then they're hypocrites and not moral at all.
Overall, meanwhile, if the the good people across schools of thought, join together, and do the right things, according to the tenets of universal righteousness, categorically we cover many of the fundamental issues that are residuals of the hypocritical fallout we experience in society -- GM mentioned: "...economic empowerment, a Black consciousness movement, an emphasis on tightly educating our children, and more respect & love towards Black women;" all needs to be addressed. Moral people should do the aforementioned decent things, but that's too much to ask of honest people, I suppose."
