Breaks my heart every time I see Curtis Mayfied.. It reminds me how faithfully he was to his massive Caribbean following.. It was while performing in the heart of Caribbean New York, Brooklyn, that he suffered the accident that claimed his life. RIP
Curtis Mayfield influenced most of the Caribbean musicians we now know, from Mighty Sparrow to Bob Marley etc etc. His lyrics was key!
Who's this guy, the white guy, did you hear how powerful his voice is? Yet I never heard of him! Sad.
Stylistics..that's when our art was more respectable and talent reigned over spectacle & boast. Loved that song - notice no bitches & Ho's & violence in the lyrics. Indeed, people make the world go round.🙏
I vividly recall back when I was 15-years-old standing in front of a juke box with a Lucky Strike cigarette dangling from my mouth looking at a song choice (It's All Right) by a group called the Impressions. Hmm, I thought, I'll give it a listen. Hearing that record with its magnificent harmony opened me up to a whole new world of music. I was hooked. And Curtis' voice and guitar led me away from the world of Pat Boone, Elvis, Brian Highland, Fabian and Frankie. Henceforth it would be Curtis, James, Otis, Little Richard and any other Black music i could get my hands on. The only two times i ever shed tears over the news of misfortune of musicians was when i learned the death of Buddy Holly in a plane crash and when I heard the news of Curtis' accident in Brooklyn which led to his death a few years later.

WE USE TO PLAY 'ITS ALL RIGHT'! Easy chords and easy bass line! But the harmony was Outta sight!
😆🤣...I also did Lucky Strike, soft pack, and unfiltered. It was cool for a while but bits of tobacco kept stick between my teeth and the constant spitting out got on my last nerve. We moved on the Bensen & Hedges, the british brand!
To this very day, I sometimes crave the taste of a non-filtered Lucky Strike. Thank God, I quit the habit in my late 20's. All my buddies who kept up the habit are no longer with us.
