They depended on kerosene lamps for light and a mule provided both transportation and power for the plow. At one time they lived only 15 or 20 miles from my great-grandmother. It took all day on a wagon to make the trip to see her and another day to get back. An old uncle bought an old used Model T Ford and the trip suddenly became only 45 minutes to an hour.
By the time my mom passed away at age 90 she had central air conditioning and heat, satellite TV, 2 baths, and many more of the conveniences of modern life. She woke up every day and thanked God for her beautiful mobile home.
