...they all have disabilities and are collecting anywhere from $500 to $1600 a month. Only about 2 are truly disabled. Kids with ADHD, mysterious back problems from military service, etc. plus a few who are using the college loan system to live. I keep wondering if anyone is truly paying the bills but then income tax time rolls around and I get a reminder that I do....

It is not just regular disability either. From what I have seen, abuse of military disability is rampant.

The problems are many but the folks who are determining eligibility for military disability have no skin in the game. There is no recourse back to them in the form of job reviews or such. The folks who counsel college students seem to be pushing the loans rather than trying to maintain any semblance of fiscal responsibility. They handed my daughters loan packages at freshman orientation and strongly encouraged them to fill out the applications. The colleges get the money, the taxpayer gets the bill and there is no recourse for anyone other than the student - and if many people have their way that will be forgotten also.
