I don't really mind Warp Drive too very much because I realize that traveling around from one stellar system to another during any reasonable time frame is necessary for plot advancement.
The Transporter is another matter. It is far too often a "Deus Ex Machina" meaning "an unexpected power or event saving a seemingly hopeless situation, especially as a contrived plot device in a play or novel". Far too many instant escapes, etc, etc, are done by the Transporter. Getting into and out of a place is usually a major issue. Even when traveling around a tall building, elevators are required. It is especially disconcerting when the transport occurs from a dangerous position to avoid having the hero to actually make an escape. IMHO, Star Trek would have been a better series WITHOUT Transporters.
