My wife and I celebrated our diamond wedding a couple of years ago and we also received a card from The Queen. The card was very regal and pleasing but it was the envelope which we found most interesting. I had persuaded the delivery person to leave the envelope intact as there was a demand that he remove a detachable instruction sheet before delivery. The following transcript taken from the detachable sheet, may give an indication why the delivery of your greetings card was expedited in the grand manner it was.
Words taken from the detachable sheet.
PLEASE READ AND DETACH BEFORE DELIVERY.
Royal Card Special Delivery Item
For the attention of the Officer in Charge at the Delivery Office.
This is a Royal Card Delivery item from Her Majesty The Queen which must be delivered on the first delivery on the date shown overleaf. Before delivery commences on the due date, you must telephone the Telegraph Clerk, Buckingham Palace on XXX XXXX XXXX to confirm that the item has been received and is about to be delivered.
FAILURE TO DO SO BY 0930 WILL INITIATE AN ENQUIRY FROM THE PALACE
I have removed the telephone number for security reasons as the delivery chap might lose his head or at least be sent to The Tower.
Llyn, I hope you enjoyed whatever celebration you had and I hope you have many many, more.
Regards. George
