Re: new growing year
Brian I think your question is aimed at me, the answer is no the land is not boggy, we do have quite extensive areas of lawn, hence the need for a ride on mower, to be honest we also have an area that has been shingled over and have created an Italian style area that is very dry as has sun all day on it. We have a few apple trees, we benefit from spraying etc when the farmer sprays his apple orchards which are just on the other side of the stream, we have an apple tree that produces the most extraordinary apples - they have an almost bright red interior, have a fantastic flavour, I forget the name of the apple. The water table does fluctuate, we live within the curtilage of a listed building (house) they have a well in their kitchen when speaking to the owner he tells us when the water table is high, it is with this house that we share the moat. When we moved here we were shown/told that there was a big garden, I can tell you that is one of the driest places in the garden, don’t know where the idea of a big garden came from!!! Geordieboy, your garden and surroundings sound quite idilic it must be a very relaxing place for you being able to share your space with the wildlife, I know we spend quite a lot of time watching the variety of birds that come into the garden. Just this last couple of weeks mallards have arrived and are living on the moat and the island, there are also some in a neighbours pond, we look forward to when the ducklings arrive as it is a wonderful sight watching them waddle around the garden, we also have moor hens, thank you for sharing with us the delights of your garden.
