Sorry, people in a suit don't work any better that someone in jeans and a t-shirt, you'll probably find that for meetings with outside agencies they will dress appropriately, My sister worked for the civil service from school to retirement and she dressed for comfort, only dressing more formally for certain meetings etc. The civil service also do not allocate desks to people nowadays if they don't need to, you are a hybrid worker and the days working from home and the days in the office is determined by your role and contract. An office might be the base for 5000 people but it won't be able to handle them all being in at once hence the hybrid working, that coupled with the flexi hours which have an earlier and later log in and out times mean the civil service for a lot of people is no longer a 9-5 job. Also some departments work 7 days a week. this all has to be taken into consideration. The reporter certainly didn't do that, and sorry Sheila but neither did you.
